Event Recap
RECAP | 2019 EMEA Uptime Institute Fall Conference - Amsterdam 9th - 11th October
The EMEA Fall Conference was held recently in Amsterdam, and it was a truly multi-national event, with 48 attendees coming from 20 countries.
We kicked off the conference with a look back at 10 years of partnership between Uptime Institute and 451 Research, followed by our Roundtables to get everyone acquainted. Out topics for the Roundtable were a choice for the attendee of either Technical, Rising Rack Densities, or Strategic, Visibility within the Public Cloud, and while the Technical Roundtables had more attendees everyone in the room certainly had points to share for both! Our newest recruit to Uptime Institute Intelligence, Rabih Bashroush, then shared with all the new Ecodesign Regulations on servers and data storage products, and the floor was then opened up to our member for the Innovation session. It was during this Innovation session that we got to welcome and find out more from our newest Network Member IstraDigital.
Day 2 started off looking at the topic of Resilency within the Datacenter, beginning with an excellent look at the current work Network Members ING are undertaking internally, and followed by an overview of the issue from Andy Lawrence. After a short break out hosts, datacenter.com, introduced themselves and their company and between a comprehensive presentation and in-depth interview readied us all to tour their facility.
After a bracing walk in the Amsterdam Autumn air to the coach the team at datacenter.com split us into 2 groups and allowed their biggest guest group to date to view both the existing facility and their expansion plans, which was followed by a lively Feedback session, concluded with a general agreement on the high quality of the facility all had just viewed.
Day 3 wrapped up the conference with more of our guest presentations, including an insight into the operations at CERN, an update on the Datacenter industry in The Netherlands, a look at Heat re-use in Finland from Yandex and lastly how we look anew at Server Energy Consumption and what metrics could be implemented to help. We also welcomed Rhonda Ascierto to present the work Uptime Institute Intelligence has done on the skills shortage in the industry, and the every popular Panorama.
All in all it was agreed to be an enjoyable conference, in the break times there were many discussions taking place around the conference and our wider industry challenges and many new connections made throughout Europe and afar
We must thank our gracious hosts Datacenter.com, for accommodating such a large group of visitors to tour their site, and providing such an excellent afternoon reception, the tour remained the highlight of the conference for many!
We are heading to Athens for Spring 2020, dates will be confirmed shortly
