Final EU EED rating label introduces significant changes

The EU's delegated regulation establishing the common data center rating scheme is undergoing a two-month final review by the European Parliament and the Council of the European Union before it can take effect. The European Parliament and the Council can reject the regulation but not amend it. The European Commission (EC) will publish the first sustainability labels for individual data centers by August 15, 2027. The EC must assess the rating scheme and provide the European Parliament and the Council with a report recommending regulatory modifications by the end of 2028 and every three years thereafter. Future revisions may introduce full or partial certification or auditing of the reported data.

Labels will be generated automatically from the EU database. Operators may not produce or display similar-looking labels. Data center operators must provide the label in electronic form to anyone who requests it. They can do so by directing people to a publicly accessible website or to the European data center database.
