The threat to data center security from state-sponsored hackers

Nation states are becoming increasingly active in sponsoring cyberattacks against geopolitical rivals. Threats range from relatively unsophisticated and uncoordinated attacks that either support or oppose a political idea, to advanced persistent threats (APTs) engineered to lurk silently on a network until called upon to steal, spy or disrupt.

More recently, these attacks have been targeting operational technology (OT) systems — including equipment that delivers data center power and cooling, where failure could cause catastrophic damage to a data center facility. Data center management is responsible for safeguarding these systems.
