UII DATA REPORT 214 | NOVEMBER 2026
Data Report

Cybersecurity spans data center systems and operations

Cybersecurity affects both the information held within data centers and the systems that keep them operational. Results from the Uptime Institute Data Center Security Survey 2026 show that most operators experienced only limited consequences from their worst cybersecurity incident over the past 3 years. More than a quarter, however, reported at least significant impacts.

This report examines the causes respondents attributed to these incidents, the reasons organizations conducted cybersecurity assessments and the scope of those assessments. It also examines routine updates to operational technology (OT) equipment and the challenges of applying security fixes safely.
