EED recast: new reporting proposals raise confidentiality concerns

The European Commission (EC) has published a draft technical document on data center metrics and reporting obligations in support of the deployment of its Energy Efficiency Directive (EED) recast. The Directive is intended to encourage operators to improve data center energy efficiency and, ultimately, reduce carbon emissions. The latest technical proposals are far reaching and, in some areas, appear to go beyond the scope of an environmental performance assessment.

Uptime Intelligence has been tracking the progress of the EED recast (see Additional resources below), specifically regarding proposed metrics and reporting requirements. According to the current schedule, the European Parliament will finalize the Directive during the first half of 2023.
