Network complexity heightens cyber-risks for data centers

Digital infrastructure is more interconnected than ever — both within and between data centers. This is the result of virtualization and cloud and hybrid strategies at the IT level, and advances in remote monitoring, telemetry and sensors and intelligent management at the facility level. These advances make data center networks more complex and expand the range of cyber threats. While following industry standards for security can improve digital resiliency, cyberattacks are becoming more sophisticated and often outpace the release of software updates and other defensive measures.

The Uptime Institute Data Center Security Survey 2023 asked data center owners and operators about their key concerns relating to cybersecurity, as well as their strategies for mitigating and responding to digital risks.
