IT-OT telemetry failings are hindering real-time applications
In theory, operators could dramatically improve efficiency and visibility in their facilities by combining rich telemetry data from IT and OT systems. In practice, Uptime Institute members have reported that such efforts are hindered by a lack of protocol and system standardization. Implementations and proof of concept projects are failing because disparate systems either do not communicate or cannot handle the required volume of data, or the velocity at which it is produced.
An industry-wide failure to adopt common standards for data exchange and communication has led to incompatible systems that use a proliferation of protocols, necessitating costly workarounds.
