Edge plays a major role in hybrid strategies

Edge data centers are generally smaller facilities (for IT workloads up to a few hundred kilowatts) that enable the processing of data closer to local end users and devices. These facilities can reduce latency, optimize bandwidth, and improve scalability and resiliency. However, their value depends on the nature of the IT workloads deployed as well as the cost factors. As IT operators shift increasingly toward hybrid strategies, approaches to edge data centers are becoming more diverse; but edge is clearly key to delivering certain business-critical applications.

The Uptime Institute Edge Data Center Survey 2023 explores how organizations’ edge deployments can play a crucial role in guaranteeing performance and reliability to end users, and how they fit into the wider adoption of public and private cloud services.
