Direct liquid cooling (DLC) is not yet widespread in data centers. Higher rack power density and escalating CPU and GPU heat output play crucial roles in driving its adoption, but so far, they have only led operators to use DLC (including cold plate and immersion systems) where high-performance IT affords them few (if any) other options.
As a result, air cooling will likely remain the dominant cooling approach for the industry over the near term. Consequently, many DLC deployments will be integrated into existing infrastructure as part of a hybrid cooling strategy.
