A reliance on digital services since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic in early 2020 and governments’ increased concerns about the risks and resiliency of digital infrastructure have resulted in numerous new proposals for stricter legislation. If enacted (and some already have), these legal changes are likely to bring significant new obligations for data center operators and service providers.
Many data center operators are facing the prospect of direct regulatory oversight for the first time; others have come under greater legal scrutiny through their customers due to new requirements for assessing and reporting risks associated with IT service providers (see Table 1).
